Sensor operates the water flow there are 2 sensors located on the side and bottom of the spray head， the side sensor is for constant on usage for washing dishes etc. this sensor will automatically turn the water off after 3-minutes of it not sensing any movement to avoid accidentally leaving the water on， the bottom sensor is for instant on water like when filling a pot etc.， no motion and it will turn off
